Make Me a Shadow on the Wall (Matthew Swift)

Description

Yes, the building is on fire, and yes, it is totally his fault.
(Scene I was thinking of is in Minority Council, but it happens several times.)
Kind of a speed pic while I tried to figure out how to get glows to work.  Yeah, I know the proportions are off (even more than usual. I'm having issues with how short he is--from the books, he seems to be under 5'7''), but I think the glows came out well, although I forgot to actually correct the shadows on the rest of him.

Matthew Swift (of the eponymous series by Kate Griffin) is probably the weirdest and, in a strange way, the scariest of the Urban Fantasy protagonists I follow.
Before he died, he was a rather mediocre urban sorcerer. But then he was murdered; stabbed and left to bleed out in a gloomy alley. With his last breath and blood, he threw himself into the legion of electric blue angels who sing within the telephone wires. Then he was summoned back, and the electric blue angels came along for the ride, sharing their consciousness with the dead sorcerer and turning his eyes an inhumanly bright blue.

Matthew is snarky, depressive, and often impulsive. The electric blue angels are something else altogether: joyful, passionate, curious, fierce, savage, and utterly uncaring of consequence. The entity in control changes seamlessly throughout the novels, signalled by a change from singular "I" to plural "we." The angels also have a bunch of creepy catchphrases, including "Make me a shadow on the wall." However, when the angels take over completely, Swift's entire body begins to burn with their electric blue, and nearly apocalyptic destruction is sure to follow. In Matthew's words:

"We burn the things we touch..it is a fire that mortals cannot sustain. I will burn one day..my blood will fall..it will be blue electric fire and all that is human and mortal in me will dissolve in fire and speed and fury and delight and not even notice that it has died."

I can't recommend these books highly enough. Fair warning--the writing style is stream-of-consciousness and takes some getting used to, but the imagination and creativity is absolutely breathtaking. The first book is Madness of Angels.

Drawn on my Samsung Note 10.1, which I love dearly. I use the program Clover, which has a steep learning curve but is very good.
